 Callum Howell RIP
« Thread Started on Dec 14, 2006, 10:15pm »

It is with profound sadness that I bring you the news of the death of Callum Howell, guitarist with MCD. He was found dead yesterday (13th Dec) . He was 18. Callum has spent the last six years playing guitar with MCD, which he co-founded with Dan Brogan and Gaz Mackie when he was only twelve. At the age of 13 he took the band through to the finals of the Scunthorpe Rock Open, where one of his tunes – “Alone” won over the judges and critics alike. Callum also played in the much loved Dead Girls Never Struggle and The Agents. This year as well as going out on tour twice with MCD he filled in on guitar with The Infested from Leeds on their nationwide tour and played with Strza Crack in front of 20,000.

MCD had two tours lined up for next year, one on the continent, and their debut album, “All is lost” was due to be released in January. It is unlikely that MCD will continue.

He was very well respected in the Lincoln punk community and beyond and will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and of course the members of MCD, who together with Callum's family will be arranging the funeral, which is to be more a celebration of Callum's life.

"and now that you have gone from me, I never ever get to see, what this life was meant to be"
Alone - Words by Callum Howell (2002)

Rest in peace Callum, you will be greatly missed

I guess the lack of replies is because nobody knows what to say. Neither do i, i don't think its quite sunk in yet. He achieved so much at such a young age, i always thought he would go far and do great things. The Lincoln music scene will never be the same again. R.I.P Callum

I don't know what to say...I had the pleasure of playing with him a couple of times, and I think I can safely say he was the best musician I've had that pleasure with...RIP Cal

Words fail me, this is such a blow. I barely knew him but I DID know he was as sound a kid as you could ever hope to meet. I really don't think anyone's gonna forget Callum in a hurry or what he and his band achieved for the punk scene in Lincoln.

Rest in peace dude.

I cant believe what Im hearing.

I just remember how nice he was to me every time I met him.

My heart goes out to MCD and his family and friends, and, of course, Callum himself.

Thanks for your friendliness and support - you are and always have been one of my heros.

I cant begin to say thank you enough to everyone who came to the duke last night. It was a wonderful thing to see that many people in a room who cared about one person so much. He was a great friend not just to me but to everyone he touched in his life. For the past 5 years in our friendship he was always one of the people you could rely on to always have a smile and try to make you feel better.

Skippy may you rest in peace.

I can't even think of anything to say because im still shocked from the news but i feel i must pay my respects to one of the most honoured individuals in lincoln. He is and will remain the most important person in my life. I thank him so much for letting me have the honour of working along side of him and being a part of something he did so well, which was performing with such passion and honesty.

he had a heart of gold and was also so positive. He was also there for all his friends when they were down, he always made me laugh, he was such a character and his kindness, humour, talent and any other parts of his personality will never be replaced. We only look back at the good times because they never were any bad times with the guy. i have spent many a night talking about the future, writing songs and just generally having a good time and like everyone else here, is gunna miss that so much.

as far as mcd is concerned we're not carrying on, Callum cannot and will not be replaced. in this time i, along with the rest of the band feel "what is the point in carrying on playing music!" but i know thats not what he would have wanted. new bands will arise eventually and i promise him i will make him so proud of me and let him know how much he really is loved!

he is my life!

One of the best friends we all could ever have wanted, it's been such a privelege to know him as I'm sure everyone will agree. The number of people who came down last night was simply moving. He achieved so much and made everyone so proud, I can't say a bad word about the guy.
Like people said last night I'm sure he's up there teaching god how to play Heads Held High on the guitar! What's a loss for us is a gain for him.
Rest in peace mate, we're all gonna miss you more than you'll ever know.

Like most people I don't know what to say, it still hasnt sunk in, I spent most of yesterday just sat in shock and will probably do the same for quite a while to come.

I didnt know him as well as alot of people on here but he was always positive and kind and always had good things to say, I wish I had got to know him more but we never had the time.

I will miss you more than you will know

Rest in peace Callum.
